How to recognize fresh dried seaweeds

How to recognize fresh dried seaweeds?

There are several signs to observe. Below  is some of the signs whether the seaweeds that you bought is not fresh or unusable : -

White Seaweed originally is yellowish, white color.
After several weeks, the color will be changed to golden yellow and lastly turn to black. If the seaweeds reach blackish color, it is not good to be consumed due to the seaweed already infected with bacteria or other microorganisms which can cause disease to human.
For purple Seaweed, the original color was indeed purple. Fresh seaweed sometimes looks  reddish purple. If the color become too brownish, seaweed is considered unusable.

Apart from changing color, dried seaweed will be also shrinking. This is likely to have been through the process of longer storage (4-5 weeks) resulted in percentage of iodine (and other contents) inside the seaweed decreases.

Unusable Seaweed can also be recognized through its stink/smelly odour.
